What is START Children’s Center, Inc.? START Children's Center is the Child Advocacy Center for Rensselaer County. It was established to provide services that reduce the trauma that children endure due to being a victim of abuse or a witness to violence. The Center is designed in a child-friendly manner that caters specifically to their needs. A focus is also placed on supporting the affected and engaged members of the victim’s family.

Child Advocacy Center seeks qualified candidates for the following full time positions:

Licensed Therapist

START Children’s Center, Inc. seeks a Licensed Masters Level Therapist for a rewarding position working with child victims of abuse and their engaged family members.

Position Description: START is seeking a dynamic, self motivated therapist to provide crisis and long-term therapy to children who have experienced trauma as well as their engaged family members. This individual will also provide group therapy and family treatment as needed. The ideal candidate will have experience in child/adolescent therapy; knowledge or training in TF-CBT; experience in or knowledge of child sexual abuse dynamics; demonstrated knowledge of the court system and child welfare. The candidate will work in a supportive team environment; should be able to remain objective; and posses excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree in counseling from an accredited academic institution. License preferred, license eligible considered. At least 2 years experience working with children and families.

Pre-employment requirements: Criminal Background check and verification of degree and licensure.

Therapist

START Children’s Center, Inc. seeks a Therapist for a rewarding position working with child victims of abuse and their engaged family members.

Position Description: START is seeking a dynamic, self motivated therapist to provide crisis and long-term therapy to children who have experienced trauma as well as their engaged family members. This individual will also provide group therapy and family treatment as needed. In addition this candidate will gain experience in the Trauma Assessment and Needs Evaluation Program (TANE). This program conducts evaluations of children, ages 4 years to 18 years of age, entering care through foster care. The purpose of the program is to quickly identify through subjective and objective measure, the mental health, educational, placement, and medical needs of each child. Crisis management and education may be provided to the foster parent, as well as rapid decision making to respond to each child’s unique needs.

The ideal candidate will have experience in child/adolescent therapy; knowledge or training in TF-CBT; experience in or knowledge of child sexual abuse dynamics; demonstrated knowledge of the court system and child welfare. Forensic Interviewer

START Children’s Center, Inc. seeks a Forensic Interviewer for a rewarding position working with child victims of abuse and their engaged family members.

Position Description: The Forensic Interviewer Position involves interviewing children and adolescents regarding allegations of abuse in a non-leading, developmentally and culturally sensitive manner. The individual will work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team (i.e. law enforcement, CPS, medical staff, therapists, prosecution) and testify in court as needed, . Timely, detailed, concise documentation required. Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills required. Knowledge of the dynamics of child abuse and child development needed, as well as the ability to engage children of all ages in an interview type setting.

Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree in counseling from an accredited academic institution and two year experience preferred or its equivalent in work experience. Previous training in a accredited forensic interviewer training program preferred, however, training can be provided.

Case Manager

START Children’s Center, Inc. seeks a Case Manager for a rewarding position working with child victims of abuse and their engaged family members.

Position Description: START is seeking a dynamic, self motivated case manager to provide preventive case management services to those families at risk of being chronically involved in the investigative aspect of the child welfare system. Case management facilitates the achievement of client wellness and autonomy through advocacy, assessment, planning, communication, education, resource management and service facilitation. The candidate will work in a supportive team environment; should be able to remain objective; and posses excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in human services related field from an accredited academic institution.
